course6

Application of Spectroscopy in Organic Chemistry (B.Sc.)

Course Description

  1. Course headlines
  1. Molecular formula
  2. IR spectroscopy
  3. NMR spectroscopy: Basics and structure elucidation using one-dimensional techniques
  4. UV-Vis Spectroscopy
  5. Mass spectroscopy
  6. Structure elucidation using all spectra

  1. Goal

Student should learn all fundamentals, instrumental aspects and basic topics related to IR, Mass and NMR Spectroscopy. Moreover, they should interpret all spectra and determine the structure using NMR spectrum alone or in combination with the other spectra. The most important duty of student is solving a lot of problems as much as they could. All problems of textbooks 1 (except chapter 9) and problems 1-100 of textbook 2 should be solved.

  1. Scores
  1. Midterm 1 (Molecular formula, IR, NMR): 8 points
  2. Midterm 2 (UV-Vis and Mass): 5 points
  3. Final exam (Structure elucidation): 7 points

  1. The textbook (available in both English and Persian languages)
