M. Sedighipoor, M. Montazerozohori, H. Tavakol, M. H. Habibi,  Synthesis, spectral, theoretical and electrochemical studies of some new complexes ofmercury and cadmium with a new asymmetric Schiff base ligand 12th Iranian Inorganic Chemistry Seminar, Rasht, Iran, September 2010.

Abstract

In the recent years, there has been considerable interest in the chemistry of transition metal complexes of Schiff bases. This is due to the fact that Schiff bases offer opportunities for inducing substrate chirality, tuning the metal centred electronic factor, enhancing the solubility and stability of either homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysts. Schiff base complexes have been amongst the most widely studied coordination compounds in the past few years, since they are becoming increasingly important as biochemical, analytical and antimicrobial reagents. Despite to other metal ions, the mercury and cadmium complexes of Hg(II) and Cd(II) are scanty in the literature. In this work we report the synthesis of some new four coordinated complexes of heavy IIB group transition metal ions with the ligand of N, N`- bis ((E)-3(2-nitro phenyl) allylidene) propane- 1,2- diamine. The ligand and complexes were full characterized by physical and spectral data including microanalysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis, 1H and 13C NMR and conductivity measurements. At the end, the electrochemical behavior of the ligand and complexes were investigated by cyclic voltammetry technique. The reduction and oxidation potentials of them were derived.
