The graphene was doped by introducing atomized sulfur gas flow as sulfur source and acetylene as carbon source at 800 °C in chemical vapor deposition on copper foil. FE-SEM, TGA, XPS and Raman tests were used to investigate the morphology, thermal behavior and surface properties of the synthesized graphene. A novel, facile and efficient methodology for the synthesis of 1,5–benzodiazepines by the reaction of chalcone with 1,2–phenylenediamine with the mediation of sulfur–doped graphene is described. This method is simple, efficient, environmentally benign, free of toxic catalysts, cost-effective and has good yields for the formation of these seven-membered heterocycles.
